There are three words that can be used as the word for in Thai including ให้ (hây), สำหรับ (sǎmràp) and เพื่อ (phɨ̂a).

ให้ (hây) = for someone or something in Thai

verb + ให้ (hây) + someone or something = an action is done for

ผม ซื้อ อาหาร ให้ หมา
– phǒm sɨ́ɨ ʔaahǎan hây mǎa
– I buy food for dogs.

ผม ทำงาน ให้ บริษัท
– phǒm tham-ŋaan hây bɔrisàt
– I work for a company.

ฉัน ซัก ผ้า ให้ ลูก
– chán sák phâa hây lûuk
– I wash clothes for my children.

สำหรับ (sǎmràp) used to show that something is there for someone or something is suitable for a specific purpose.

ราคา นี้ สำหรับ สมาชิก
– raakhaa níi sǎmràp samaachík
– This price is for a member.

ห้องนอน สำหรับ แขก

verb + เพื่อ (phɨ̂a) + someone or something = do something for a sake of

ผม ทำงาน หนัก เพื่อ บริษัท
– phǒm tham-ŋaan nàk phɨ̂a bɔrisàt
– I work hard for the company.

แม่ เหนื่อย เพื่อ ลูก
– mæ̂æ nɨ́ay phɨ̂a lûuk
– Mom is tired for children (tired from a hard work).

คุณ ทำ แบบ นี้ เพื่อ อะไร
– khun tham bæ̀æp níi phɨ̂a ʔaray
– You do like this for the sake of what? (You do like this for what?)

เพื่อ (phɨ̂a) used with the word สุขภาพ (sùkkhaphâap) which means health to show that something is there for a sake of health.

อาหาร เพื่อ สุขภาพ
– ʔaahǎan phɨ̂a sùkkhaphâap
– Food for health (Healthy food).
